Adam and The Muggle Spells

Posted by Sumayyah Mohd Idris

below is a story written by beloved sista. I enjoy reading her writings and I particularly love this story of hers.. I really felt the sentiments with the heart.. i believe not only she has a marvel with words, but the stories that she writes educates us on life; thus proves her maturity, al-hamduliLlah.

i'd like to say faithfully that to my humble reckoning Allah has really blessed her with a potential psycholinguistic capacity .. InsyaAllah, it will be a fulfilling reading;)

-------------------
Once upon a twenty-first century, there was a boy named Adam. Adam was as ambitious as any boy could be. He dreamed big dreams and always expected the best. As a whole, he was a man whom could be considered as positive-thinker and spiritual. He had a magnificent home and he owned a successful company.

However, out of 1000 people only one person who is naturally born with this quality. The rest (who are successful) which include Adam, have to implant this quality within themselves in no such short time.

At first, he led a happy life with a happy family. Being the only child in his family, he did not need to share his parents with anyone. He talked, laughed and cried with them. Things went on well for some times until one fateful evening.

The air was tense and Adam could feel that something was not right. Adam’s unsettling feeling was confirmed when he saw his mother sitting on an armchair and crying silently. She only went to the armchair when she was greatly upset. The last time she touched it was ten years ago when Grandma died. One thing confused him. His father was not around but he used to be there for his mother, always.

Slowly, Adam kneeled beside her.

“Umi, is something not right?” he asked.

It was some minutes when she finally answered him.

“Adam, I’m afraid we won’t be able to see Abati any longer…”

“Why?”

“Because I said so.”

“But I don’t understand.”

Adam could never forget the rage his mother got into right after he spoke.

“You don’t have to understand!” shouted his mother, crashing the armchair to the floor as she got up. “You’re just a kid who needs to know nothing. While I’m your mother who has to hold everything…Everything…My burden only…Mine….” These last few words were muttered in a slow, hissing tone that Adam didn’t like to hear at all.

She then ran away, crying louder and pulling her hairs. Since that moment, Adam thought he did not know her any longer.

It was through his relatives that he learnt the truth. His father was killed in a tragic accident that he did not like at all to recall. However, he could tell that it was not unintentional, that his father’s death was not merely an accident. Moreover, his mother was greatly affected by that. Adam was not only upset; it seemed like he had no reason to live anymore and his heart was terribly and sadly broken to pieces. If before the smooth hands of his father would wipe his tears, but now his tears were flooding fast, with no sight of those familiar hands. Besides, he could no longer turn to his mother who had changed into a stranger to him and who kept muttering to herself, “I’ll kill them. All of them..”

Adam had grown into a more serious boy. Some relatives tried to help but he was now as aggressive as he was once sweet. Finally, Adam’s mother had to be placed in a mental-care centre when she once tried to jab a knife through Adam’s throat, mistaken him for the people who had killed her husband.

Things would have been worse for him had not he chose to slip into his dead father’s room one day.

There were a few golden boxes lined up beside the bed. Being curious, he opened one of them and saw a pile of all-sizes of notebooks. He took one of the books and read it. Little did he know that it was the lifetime change moment.

As he read, he couldn’t stop his tears; he had not been crying since the funeral because he wanted to show that he was a strong boy. Here was some of what his father had written.

‘Dear Journal,

I’m very happy now. I’ve succeeded in making Adam believes that I am Ben 10’s grandpa. I hope this joy would last forever. But I know, joy is something within you. You’re joyful and happy regardless of the situations.’

“How could I ever feel happy now?” muttered Adam. As if hearing his question, his father’s next sentences were;

‘It’s OK to feel unhappy. But not forever. It’s then the time to choose between two; happy or unhappy. You just have to choose.’

And now, Adam realized that his father was not really dead. He was still speaking to him, whispering magical words into his heart.

Adam then made it a habit to return to the room and plunged from one book to another, swallowing each word. Besides inspirational and happy-family-time entries, his father had also conjured up stories which were magical and imaginative and which carried Adam to another world where his heart lightened up and cured itself.

Adam once visited his mother and tried to give the books to her but she simply threw them away. Nonetheless, Adam had never given up hope for her.

One night he dreamt of his father saying this to him.

‘Use your most powerful tool given by Allah to lift you up. Use your imagination…’

And Adam used it. He imagined, each time before he slept and after he woke up, that he was a happy boy under whatever circumstances he might be in. He pictured in his mind of the happy smiles that came from his lips. He hung onto the picture while closing his eyes until the smile really formed on his face. He also imagined that he had many friends who were supportive and loyal. One by one, the friends whom he had imagined began to emerge and they were very good to him, as he was to them.

As any boy who loved to imagine wild things, Adam imagined that he had a wonderful pet namely CJ8, which could talk and owned a wand. In his mind, the fantastic animal always inspired him, even though sometimes he was a bit snappy. CJ8 had become so real to him that he was having quite an argument with CJ8.

‘I want to die,’ said Adam in his mind,

And the imaginary CJ8 emerged.

‘Why?’

‘Because I no longer have Abati and Umi.’

‘You do have your Umi.’

‘No, I don’t.’

CJ8 was quiet for a few seconds, then he said, ‘But aren’t you afraid if what you’ve just said is going to be true? How would you feel if you no longer have her?’

‘But I’m so sad that I feel like that. Every boys has his own mother who’s sane while mine… Parents are the only ones who can understand you well but who can understand me now?’ Adam’s voice in the mind croaked.

‘Oh, what an ignorant little boy you are. Don’t you know that there’s a Muggle Spell that even Hermione doesn’t know about, that know-it-all witch, and even this spell can turn your life 360 degrees? We, Muggles are much cleverer than those wrecked witches.’

‘What is it?’ asked Adam eagerly, ignoring CJ8’s last remark.

‘Say this spell everyday to yourself – IamGratefulThatIstillHaveAHealthyMomAndIamGratefulForEverythingAllahHasFellUponMe.

Easy to say, easy to do. The result is incredible. Your Umi will be transformed into the mom you used to know,’ finished CJ8 and he Disapparated.

Adam recited the Gratitude Spell everyday and the rest was history.

Another lesson his father and CJ8 had taught him was to forgive, always, especially the ones who had caused the death.

‘Forgive others and you shall be at peace.’ His father had written.

CJ8 meanwhile had a Muggle Spell for him, as usual.

‘Grab a wand and cast ‘IForgiveU!’ spell at anyone who upsets you. You’ll feel OK almost instantly.’

With his imagination, gratitude and forgiving value and the belief that he could always be the best, Adam is now as happy as any man could be and as wealthy as any millionaire could be.

Nevertheless, Adam always considers himself as a son who just wants to please his parents, especially his mother.

And right at this moment, he is smiling at a lovely woman whom he calls ‘Umi’ and the woman smiles wider in return!

p/s: CJ8 sends his love to Hamidians. He says would you please come to his wedding at where he would marry female CJ7?
